A tangled circumstance hatched over tea
The roof’s come in this is Billy’s plea
Once a man of serene confidence
Never the one sitting on the fence
I remember Billy as a timid boy
He never grew out of his favourite toy

The only child of the village queen
People always chaffed him about his size
Small in stature but big in face
Stumpy fingers the problem in Billy’s case

After many years making shoes
Billy thought that he couldn’t lose
It was long before the lights went out
Billy’s boots weren’t even worth a shout
